Professional services in Auckland

A professional firm needs to know what went into an answer and how to challenge it. ChatGPT Projects can organise related reference material and instructions, while data analysis can inspect an uploaded file and explain calculations.6,8 We teach a practical distinction between an observed value, a calculated result and a judgement that belongs to a professional.

For a generic Auckland advisory office, the exercise could use an invented work-in-progress export and a fictional engagement brief. Staff compare the analysis with a checked spreadsheet before drafting a partner update. TheColab delivers the session at your workplace and helps the process owner turn useful prompts into a routine with a clear review gate.

Paid employees in professional services went from 203,517 in February 2020 to 208,458 in February 2025 (+2.4%).

Local context

  • Auckland Economic Monitor describes a dense city-centre service economy, and PwC publishes an Auckland office address. These sources support a local professional-work setting without establishing how many staff use ChatGPT.1,31,3
  • Beca's FY25 report describes responsible-use training and an AI Centre of Excellence. It also records the withdrawal of its external FranklyAI for Teams product, a reminder to review product changes during a rollout.22

Where ChatGPT helps professional services teams

  • Review an engagement data table

Upload a synthetic work-in-progress file and ask data analysis to identify inconsistent matter codes, missing dates and unusual groupings. Inspect the calculations behind any summary. The engagement manager then decides which finding deserves investigation, rather than letting an unexplained chart imply that a team or client caused a problem.8

    • Practice analyst
    • ChatGPT data analysis
  • Draft within an approved brief

Set up a Project around fictional engagement objectives and the firm's permitted writing guide. Request a partner briefing that separates documented facts, proposed interpretations and questions for the client. Compare the draft with the brief and remove claims that only sound plausible; the exercise ends when another reviewer can trace the reasoning.6

    • Advisory consultant
    • ChatGPT Projects and instructions
  • Audit a standing drafting GPT

Review an existing custom GPT's instructions, reference files and test questions. Use a deliberately incomplete scope to see whether it invents an obligation. OpenAI's current documentation announces planned GPT retirement and migration to plugins, so capture the useful workflow and test a replacement before relying on it for future engagements.7

    • Knowledge manager
    • Custom GPT maintenance
  • Find the authorised firm reference

With an administrator-approved connected app, practise retrieving a policy from a restricted training folder. Confirm the source version and access before using it to explain a process. Ask the participant to distinguish retrieved text from ChatGPT's interpretation, and keep any action that changes a business record outside this exercise.9

    • Practice operations coordinator
    • Connectors for reference retrieval

An analysis-to-briefing review cycle

  1. Define a partner's question and create an invented dataset that can support part of the answer.
  2. List missing information before generating calculations or conclusions.
  3. Check the calculation method and write a briefing with its assumptions visible.
  4. Assign a professional reviewer to approve the interpretation and any next action.

Professional services in Auckland: questions

Should we create a new custom GPT for every practice area?

Check OpenAI's migration notices before investing in that structure. The documentation now recommends moving custom GPT workflows to plugins.7 Start by describing the repeat task and its evidence requirements; the best container depends on the features actually available in your workspace.

Will agent mode carry an engagement through automatically?

The current official page reports that agent mode is no longer available and still contains conflicting older guidance.10 Our workshop uses supported activities with staff review, and does not make automated engagement delivery a promised outcome.

Can a chart be included in a client report?

Only after the responsible person checks the input, calculation and interpretation. Retain the supporting file and explain material assumptions. A clean presentation cannot compensate for a missing row or an engagement definition that the analysis misunderstood.

How do we keep the method useful after the course?

Store the approved task instructions with a difficult test example and a review checklist. Name an owner who can revise them when a policy or product changes. Begin with a narrow internal briefing rather than treating every client document as suitable.
