Who it is for

Marketing coordinators, business development staff, account managers and owners who handle their own marketing.

Marketing teams get useful drafts from ChatGPT and also the most embarrassing mistakes: a product claim nobody can back up, a competitor named wrongly, a tone that sounds like every other website. This session aims for drafts that still sound like you.

Imagine a Nelson winery with a small cellar-door team that needs tasting notes, a newsletter and three social posts from one release. A skill that holds the brand voice and the facts sheet drafts all of them. A person checks every claim about awards, ingredients and price before it goes out.

The Fair Trading Act 1986 still applies to copy that a tool drafted. A business must have reasonable grounds for a claim when it makes it, so the check happens before publishing, not after a complaint.

Before you start: A ChatGPT account for each person. We build the brand voice as a skill, or as Project instructions where skills are not available. Sharing it with the team depends on your plan and workspace settings.

What we cover

  1. A brand voice skillTurn your style notes, good past copy and banned phrases into a skill. Test it on a product you know well and correct the instructions where it drifts.
  2. One brief, many channelsStart from a single brief and produce the email, the web copy and the social posts. Ask for targeted edits and keep one facts sheet so changes stay consistent across versions.
  3. Customer and market researchUse deep research for background on a sector or a buyer type, then read the sources. Summarise your own survey responses or reviews with data analysis, keeping names out.
  4. Proposals and follow-upDraft a proposal from meeting notes and your standard terms. Write follow-up emails that refer to what the customer actually said, and keep pricing decisions with a person.
  5. Images, with careCreate draft images for mock-ups and internal concepts. Discuss when generated images suit public use, and how to avoid misleading pictures of real products.
  6. The claims checkA short checklist for every public piece: facts against the source, comparisons with competitors, prices and conditions, and anything that would mislead a customer.

We adjust the content to your team, and use your own documents and tasks for the exercises.

Who does this kind of work

63.6% of employed New Zealanders, about 1,669,000 people, work in the desk-based occupation groups (in bold) where ChatGPT helps most. Each town page shows the local share, so you can see how a rollout would size up where you are.

Questions about this course

Will customers notice the copy was drafted with AI?

They notice generic copy, whoever wrote it. The session focuses on feeding ChatGPT your own voice and facts, then editing hard.

Can we use ChatGPT on our customer list?

Not on a personal account, and only within your privacy policy and AI use policy on a workspace. Most marketing tasks work with anonymised or summary data instead.

Is this suitable for a sales team with no marketing staff?

Yes. The proposal and follow-up modules are the core for sales staff, and the brand voice skill keeps their emails consistent.
